DAF DISCUSSIONS - BEITZAH 2

Binyomin Samson asked:

it seems to be from rashi DH Vehachinu that a person needs to do a hazmona maybe not bepeh but at least being able to see the food in front of him. If so how does this fit in with the Abayeh's question of Shabbos Bealmeh Tishterai where rashi explains that one could swallow the egg raw. how can they ever do this if according to Raba i need to do a real act of Hazmona

Binyomin Samson, England

The Kollel replies:

It is not necessary to see the food according to Rashi. It is clear from Rashi that if the egg was "completed" inside the hen before Yom Tov, it is considered Muchan.

Apparently, anything that is normally eaten is considered "Muchan," wherever it may be, as long as it was accessible and edible before Shabbos or Yom Tov. Hazmanah is necessary for something that is not designated for eating before Shabbos and Yom Tov - or something that was not around before Shabbos or Yom Tov.

Basically, Hazmanah refers to the familiar law of Muktzah, according to Rashi. (For more on this, see my Shiur on Beitzah 2b from this past Monday - www.dafyomi.co.il/lectures/marei-betz002.htm .)
