Why had Avimelech not killed Ba'alei Migdal Shechem together with the rest of the city?
Radak: They were not in the city when he conquered it.
What is "Tzari'ach"?
Rashi #1: It is a forest around which they bent [to make a fence of interwoven] trees and branches.
Rashi #2: It is a pit. 1
Radak: It is a tower, like "uva'Sela'im uva'Tzerichim" (Shmuel 1 13:6).
Radak, citing Targum Yonasan: Tzari'ach Beis Kel is the name of a place.
In Shmuel (1:13:6), it says "and in Tzerichim and in pits"! Perhaps they are different kinds of pits. There, Rashi explained only like his first Perush here; refer to 9:46:2:1. (PF)
Radak (Shmuel 1 13:6): They are high places, like [here] in Sefer Shoftim.
What is "Beis Kel Bris"?
Rashi: The Tzari'ach was of Ba'al Bris, which was their idolatry.
Radak citing Targum Yonasan: Tzari'ach Beis Kel is the name of a place. Bris teaches that they came to them to make a Bris with them.
