What is the meaning of "va'Tasem ba'Puch Eineha"?
Radak #1: It means va'Tasem Puch b'Eineha (she put mascara on her eyes). Also "Shilchu va'Esh Mikdashecha" (Tehilim 74:7) is like Shilchu Esh b'Mikdashecha.
Radak #2: She fixed (prettied) her eyes with mascara.
Why did she pretty herself?
Rashi: She wanted to find grace in Yehu's eyes, so he would marry her 1 .
Radak: She wanted to find grace in Yehu's eyes, so he would not kill her 2 .
Ralbag: She hoped to seize kingship.
Abarvenel: This is the way of harlots - when she should be mourning her son, she adorns herself!
Malbim: She wanted to find grace in officers' eyes, so one of them would protect her from [Yehu,] the slave who rebelled against his master.
