Why did it gore in three directions?

1.

Ibn Ezra: Yamah is the west, for in Eretz Yisrael, Yam ha'Gadol is in the west. The verse speaks based on Eretz Yisrael. It gores in front, and to the right and left, but not in back; it came from the east.

2.

Malbim: Daryavesh, then Koresh and the kings after him conquered many lands in these three directions. It did not need to mention east, for Paras is in the east.

Which Chayos are discussed?

1.

Ibn Ezra: These are not the Chayos in the first Parshah (dream).

2.

Malbim: They are other nations. All were submissive under [Paras]. Even Filiyopi, Alexander's father, sent tax to Daryavesh.
