What is the meaning of "Asof Asifem"?
Rashi: It is expression of eradication, like "Asof Asef Kol me'Al Pnei ha'Adamah" (Tzefanyah 1:2). Radak - Asof is Makor (like an infinitive) - "v'Asafta Nafshecha v'Nefesh Beisecha" (Shoftim 18:25). Asifem is like "Yachdav Yasufu" (Yeshayah 66:17), just Asifem is Hif'il, Po'el Yotzei (it acts on others), and Yasufu is Kal, Po'el Omed (the action applies only to the subject).
Malbim: Hashem says, I will cause them to gather to take counsel what to do, for I want to finish them off.
Why does it say that there are no grapes on the vine [and no figs on the fig tree]?
Rashi: Nothing will remain.
Radak: These are the primary two fruits. A person amasses more of them than other Peros, like it says regarding Brachah "Ish Tachas Gafno v'Sachas Te'enaso" (Melachim I, 5:5), and regarding curse, [the enemy] "Yochal Gafnecha v'Se'enasecha" (above, 5:17).
Malbim: The people say this - there is no sustenance!
What is the meaning of "Navel"?
Rashi: Withered, like "uch'Noveles mi'Te'enah", "k'Eleh Noveles Aleha" (Yeshayah 34:4, 1:30). Radak - it will wither before its time, to increase their affliction.
Why does it say "va'Eten Lahem Ya'avrum"?
Rashi, Targum Yonasan: All this will happen to them because I gave to them laws, and they transgressed them.
Radak: I gave to them many Peros, and blessed the Peros of their land - these will pass from them. The enemy will eat them. The suffix Mem in Ya'avrum is in place of Mehem. Similarly, "Chazaktani va'Tuchal" (20:7) means 'You were stronger Mimeni (than me)', "Timla'emo Nafshi" (Shemos 15:9) means '[my soul] will be filled Mehem (from them)', "Banai Yetza'uni" (10:20) means Yatz'u Mimeni.
Malbim: Hashem answers, how will I give to them grapes and figs? They will transgress what I gave to them, i.e. Torah and Mitzvos!
