What do we learn from "ha'Shosim b'Mizrekei Yayin"?
Rashi citing Shabbos 62b #1: This is Kenishkin (a Kli with two [or more] mouths, enabling people to drink together. Wine is thrown from one's mouth to the other's.
Rashi citing Shabbos 62b #2: They used to throw their cups one to another [when drinking].
Radak, Malbim: They drink in big buckets, not in small cups, like is proper. Mizrekei is like Mizrakim. Also "Chalonei Shekufim" (Melachim I, 6:4) is like Chalonim.
Radak citing Targum Yonasan: Mizrekei is Samuch to an omitted word (Kesef) ? they drank, in silver Pilvan (buckets), wine. He likewise translated "b'Sefel Adirim" (Shoftim 5:25) 'b'Failei Gibaraya.'
What are "Reishis Shemanim"?
Rashi: The choicest oil ? balsam.
Radak: The choicest scented oil.
What do we learn from "v'Lo Nechlu Al Shever Yosef"?
Rashi: They are not ill due to hearing from Nevi'im the breakage that will come upon them.
Radak: Nechlu is like "Choleh Mikem Alai" (Shmuel I, 22:8). They are not ill and pained over Galus of the Shevatim before Yaravam ben Yo'ash became king. Malchus Efrayim is called Efrayim or Yosef, for its first king was Yaravam ben Nevat from Efrayim. He ruled over 10 tribes when the kingship was split. Efrayim was also greater in number and grandeur than the other Shevatim, except for Yehudah. Yakov prophesized about him "v'Ulam Achiv ha'Katon Yigdal Mimenu v'Zar'o Yihyeh Melo ha'Goyim" 1 ; "v'Yikarei Vahem Shmi" (Bereishis 48:19, 16) ? Yisrael will be called on the name of Efrayim 2 . Also Yosef was a Bechor in place of Reuven. Therefore, Yisrael is called on his name ? "Ro'e Yisrael H'azinah Noheg ka'Tzon Yosef" (Tehilim 80:2).
Malbim: They did not heed the affliction of the Klal, nor mourn over the evil impending on them, and repent to Hashem with fasting, crying and lamenting.
This proves only that Efrayim will be greater than Menasheh! (PF)
"Va'hem Shmi" refers to Menasheh and Efrayim. Radak explained there that Yisrael will be called on the name of Yosef and Efrayim, but the only verse he brought for Efrayim was "Lifnei Efrayim u'Vinyamin u'Menasheh" (Tehilim 80:3). (PF)
