What is the meaning of "Bitzosav"?
Rashi: The swamps of the sea. This is like "ha'Yig'eh Gome b'Lo Vitzah" (Iyov 8:11).
Radak: It is the places of the swamp. It is written without a Yud (for plural), but pronounced with a Yud. There is an Aleph in place of a Vov.
What are "Geva'av"?
Rashi: This is like "Asah ha'Nachal ha'Zeh Gevim Gevim" (Melachim II, 3:16). The Betzim are the marshes around [the river]. Gevim are the cavities in which water gathers.
Radak: This is like "v'Lachshof Mayim mi'Geve" (Yeshayah 30:14). It is a cavity that they dig in which water gathers. The suffixes in Bitzosav and Geva'av refer to the sea. When the sea water will be cured, the places where their water goes and gathers will not be cured.
Why will they not be healed?
Rashi: They will not be sweet ? they are for salt! The Vov in Yeraf'u is extra.
Radak citing Targum Yonasan: They will be salt mines.
Malbim: The river will go there. Radak, Malbim ? they are needed for salt, to give taste to food, and to salt everything that needs salt 1 .
Malbim (according to the Nimshal): Wild, animalistic people will remain. They will be uprooted and separated from the river of knowledge. They will be few, and will not last long, like marsh and cavities near the river ? they dry, and salt remains.
Korbanos must be salted, one must salt meat before cooking it in liquid, and heavy salting preserves meat. (PF)
