Why did Yaakov request only a little food?

Malbim: He thought that without Binyamin, they will be allowed to buy a little, 1 lest they die of hunger (but to buy more, they must bring Binyamin).

Malbim: In 44:26, Yehudah answered this. Yosef did not say only, "you will not see my face" (which he might reconsider to prevent their starvation). He also added the remedy (i.e. to bring him), to indicate that he would not have mercy on us without Binyamin.
