What is the meaning of "Ha'irosi mi'Tzafon va'Ya'as"?

1.

Rashi #1: I tell the future. I will arouse Koresh from the north to build the ruins of Yerushalayim 1 , and he will come, and [also] he will destroy Bavel.

2.

Rashi #2: I will arouse Nebuchadnetzar to destroy My city, and he will come. Also refer to 41:25:2:2.

3.

Rashi citing Targum Yonasan: I will bring in My exiles via a strong king from the north, and he will come like the sun goes out in its strength, from the east, against people, in My name.

4.

Radak citing his father: This refers to Mashi'ach 2 . It does not say whom he aroused until "Hen Avdi Esmach Bo" (42:1). It says from the north and from the east, for the 10 tribes are there, in Chalach and Chavor, Nehar Gozen and cities of Madai. That land is northeast [of Eretz Yisrael]. It should say va'Ya'asah; the Hei (the last letter of the root) is omitted.

5.

Malbim: I aroused Gog to come from the north, and he will come, like I told the Nevi'im.

1

Radak: It says "Rishon l'Tziyon" (27), for he will command Yisrael to ascend to their land.

2

Refer to 41:27:1:2 and the note there.

2)

Who will call in the name of Hashem from the east?

1.

Rashi: Koresh will say "Kol Mamlachos ha'Aretz Nasan Li Hashem Elokei ha'Shamayim" (Ezra 1:2). It says that Paras is northeast of Eretz Yisrael (it is to the north, and to the east).

2.

Rashi #2: I aroused Koresh from the east to build My city. Paras is east of Eretz Yisrael - "Ra'isi Es ha'Ayil" (Daniel 8:4. It says that it will gore west, north and south - PF).

3.

Malbim: Melech ha'Mashi'ach I aroused him from the east to call to the nations to believe in Hashem's unity.

3)

What is the meaning of "va'Yavo Seganim"?

1.

Radak: This is like Al (against) Seganim, i.e. the Nochri kings.

4)

What is "Kemo Chomer"?

1.

Radak: It is like a potter does to clay - he kneads it with his legs.

2.

Malbim: [Mashi'ach will come against the Seganim] like on clay that one tramples for the need of building.

5)

Why does it say "u'Chemo Yotzer Yirmas Tit"?

1.

Radak: This repeats the matter (like a potter tramples clay).

2.

Malbim: Chomer is used to make earthenware Kelim and bricks. People do not make anything from Tit (mud). Mashi'ach will trample also mud, which is useless. I.e. the empty, frivolous Nochrim will repent via his wars. He will not trample to destroy, rather, to fix.
