Malbim: Animals that tear and eat flesh, their strength is in what they use to kill - their claws, teeth, voice 1 and venom. This animal eats grass - its strength is in its loins.

We find that a Kol can cause people or animals to fall in pits (Yeshayah 24:18, Bava Kama 5:6). Arvei Nachal (Chukas DH umi'Zeh) says that Arye d'Bei Ila'i kills via its voice. Its voice caused miscarriages and made walls fall (Chulin 59b). (PF)
