Who is the lion?
Rashi: It is Nebuchadnetzar. Radak - he is compared to a lion, for nothing stands in front of him. Nebuchadnetzar conquered all the lands, and no one stood in front of him, like it says "u'Mashchis Goyim."
Malbim: It refers to a lion. It is common in destroyed cities, for there are many dead bodies there. When the destroyer (Nebuchadnetzar) travels, the lion and other beasts that tear [and eat] travel after him, for they know that there will be dead bodies in the cities that he destroys; no resistance remains.
What is "mi'Subecho"?
Rashi: It is from the thickets around the city, in which he lies in ambush.
What is the meaning of "Titzenah"?
Rashi: It is an expression of Tziyah (dryness).
Radak, Targum Yonasan: It will be desolate, like "Galim Nitzim" (Melachim II, 19:25, Yeshayah 37:26).
Radak citing his father: This is like "Titzmachnah" (Yeshayah 42:9), "Henetzu ha'Rimonim" (Shir ha'Shirim 6:11).
Why does it mention both the land and cities?
Malbim: Not only the land overall will be desolate, rather, also the individual cities. The same applies to "Artzechem Shemamah Areichem Serufos Esh" (Yeshayah 1:7).
