Radak: They will not need to ? the [wood of] the weapons will suffice.

Malbim: Where there are no forests, people gather wood or cut thorns scattered in the field. And even where there are forests, it will be easier to gather the weapons, due to their abundance.

Why does it add "v'Shalelu Es Sholeleihem"?

Malbim: Do not say that people near forests will cut trees, for it is easier for them. Also they will prefer to take the weapons, to make Kelim from the iron and burn the wood.
