What does the Torah mean when it writes that "the gift passed before him"?
Seforno: It means that it passed before him for inspection, to ensure that it was arranged to his satisfaction, in accordance with his specifications.

Rashi writes: "He too is angry...." Why does Rashi write this in the present tense?
Gur Aryeh (to 32:19): Rashi means that even this Pasuk was for the messengers to say to Esav; 'The gift passed by, angering him, and he spent that night at the camp.'
