What is the significance of "Va'avadtem ba'Goyim"?
Rashi: Since Yisrael will be scattered among the nations, they will lose (contact with) one another.
Makos, 24a #1: Moshe decreed that Yisrael should perish among the nations, and Yeshayah came and nullified the decree, when he stated "u'Vo'u ha'Ovdim be'Eretz Ashur ve'ha'Nidachm be Eretz Mitzrayim Vehishtachavu la'Hashem be'Har ha'Kodesh bi'Yerushalayim".
Makos, 24a #2: There is no need to worry that Yisrael will perish, because maybe the Torah means that Yisrael will be lost and Hashem will seek them (and find them - Torah Temimah) - like a lost article that the owner seeks- and by the same token, the second half of the Pasuk means that the land of the enemy will consume some of them and leave some over - like one eats some cucumbers and pumpklins, and leaves some over.
Sifra #1 (according to R. Akiva): It refers to the ten tribes, who will be lost in exile and will not return. 1
Sifra #2 (according to R. Eliezer): 'Ovdan' is merely an expression of Galus. 2
