What is the significance of the curse "ve'Eschem Ezareh ba'Goyim"?
Rashi: When the citizens of a nation are exiled to another country, they see each other and are comforted; 1 But Yisrael will be scattered among the nations like barley that has been thrown into a sieve, where not one of them is connected to the other.
Seforno: It is referring to the people who, following Galus Bavel, moved to Alexandria in Egypt. 2
Why does the Torah use the word "Vaharikosi" to describe the punishment of Cherev?
Rashi #1: Because when one draws one's sword, the scabbard is emptied. 1
Rashi #2: Because the sword that is drawn against Yisrael will not be returned to its scabbard in the near future - like water, which is not returned to the vessel from which it is emptied.
Rashi #3 (in Bereishis 14:14): The Pasuk means that Hashem will gird His sword (take up arms) 2 to fight with Yisrael.
Seforno: It refers to the sword of Nevuchdnetzar, whom Hashem will send after them, when, following Galus Bavel, those who still remained in Eretz Yisrael moved to Egypt, 3 (precisely in order to escape the sword of Nevuchadnetzar).
Having already written (in Pasuk 32) "Vahashimosi Ani es ha'Aretz", why does the Torah repeat "Vehaysah Artz'chem Shemamah"?
