What is the meaning of "Yitzpon la'Ysharim Toshiyah"?

1.

Rashi: Hashem hid the Torah by Himself for 26 generations, until it was given to Dor ha'Midbar.

2.

Malbim: Other than the general deeds that Hashem created in six days of creation, He prepared acts in every generation according to the laws of Chachmah, for the need of conduct via Hashgachah that will arise based on the generation's deeds. These acts are called Toshiyah. They are limited based on His Chachmah, for the needs of Hashgachah, reward and punishment. They are carried out via the Yesharim found in every generation. Yesharim are those who go according to their Binah, and their deeds are straight. They are greater than Tzadikim. A Midrash says that Yosef was prepared to finance, Moshe was prepared to redeem. Our verse teaches that Hashem hides straight people that will later be in the world. He prepared deeds for them to do according to the laws of His Chachmah. Refer to 2:8:1:2.

Why is He called "Magen l'Holechei Som"?

1.

Rashi: Chachmah will be a shield for you.

2.

Malbim: This refers to one whose virtue is fixed in one way, without veering or changing. Even though they never falter from their virtue - this is the definition of Tam - there could be a Michshol (stumbling block) due to the path, if they did not know the path, or there are rocks on it on which to stumble. A Tam is not Yashar; he can stumble via enticement or evils of the time, or error. Hashem will guard them from all external Michshol.
