1)

Why does it say "Alah ha'Bayis v'Divon"?

1.

Rashi: Mo'av ascended to the house, and people of Divon (automatically it is Batel - a city of Mo'av) to the Bamos (private altars).

2.

Radak: Mo'av ascended to the house of idolatry, and people of Divon to the fortress, which was a house of idolatry, and there were also Bamos.

2)

When did this occur?

1.

Radak (1-2): It will happen; past tense used in place of future; this is common in Nevu'ah. When the enemy will come on them suddenly, they will ascend to cry in front of their idolatry. They will also eulogize and tear their garments in order that Kemosh their god will have mercy on them.

3)

What was "l'Vechi"?

1.

Rashi: They ascended to the house and Bamos in order to cry.

4)

Why did they wail over Nevo and Meidva?

1.

Radak: The enemy captured them.

2.

Malbim: Their fall aroused them. Their Giborim, instead of invigorating the heart of the nation, cried like those who despair.

5)

What is the significance of Karachah and cut beards?

1.

Radak: [Mo'abites] tore out their hair and cut their beards, like people do over great pain and mourning. A grown beard is beauty of the face. Amidst mourning, they remove the beauty. This is like "Megulechei Zakan u'Keru'ei Begadim" (Yirmeyah 41:5). It did not say Megulachas, rather, Geru'ah, for disgrace.

2.

Malbim: Not only did they cry covertly. Everyone made a Karachah, like one who mourns over a breakage with no cure at all. The beard is even more honored for them; they pluck their beard hairs only because the despair reached the depths of their hearts.
