Why does it say "Gam l'Re'ehu Yisanei Rash"?
Rashi: Even his close friends and beloved hate him. "Gam" means even. Rash is an ignoramus, who does not know to act properly.
R. Yonah: After one becomes impoverished, even those who used to be his beloved hate him.
R. Yonah (21): This refers to "Shachu Ra'im Lifnei Tovim" (19). Do not say that also Tovim are lowly in the eyes of Ra'im, like you see sometimes that a Tzadik is lowly in the eyes of Resha'im when the Tzadik waxes poor, for "Gam l'Re'ehu" - someone like himself, "Yisanei Rash 1 ."
Malbim: Even though it is natural for similar people to love each other, we find that an Oni hates his fellow Oni, and he loves an Ashir.
I.e. he belittles also poor Resha'im. He does not belittle a Tzadik due to his virtue, rather, due to his poverty. (PF)
What is the significance of "v'Ohavei Ashir Rabim"?
R. Yonah: If an Ashir will disgrace or harm an Oni, he is not afraid lest people help the Oni, for also the Oni's beloved hate him (19:7), and many love the Ashir.
