Why did Moshe instruct the spies to enter the land via the south?

1.

Rashi: Because it was the most inferior part of Eretz Yisrael, and merchants tend to first display the poor-quality goods before taking out the best. 1

Ramban (in Pasuk 2) and Seforno: Because Yisrael were encamped in the south, and would begin the conquest of Eretz Cana'an from there. 2
