What is the meaning of "Rav Ochel Nir Rashim"?

1.

Rashi citing the great Mesores: In 33 places, "Rav" has a Kamatz; here it has Chataf Kamatz, and a Makaf connects is to Ochel (both words share one note). Ochel has a Patach 1 [under the Chaf], and the first syllable is accented, like "Kol Ochel ha'Shanim ha'Tovos" (Bereishis 41:35). Much grain comes to the world via the plowed field of the poor. I.e. much Torah comes from what Rebbeyim learn from their Talmidim, via delving into the Halachah.

2.

R. Yonah #1: Sometimes much grain is found in the plowed field of the poor, even though they are not able to plow and work their land properly according to its needs. This is in a year of Brachah, even though they did not fertilize and tend it properly due to their poverty.

3.

R. Yonah #2: When there is much food in the plowed field of the poor, Yesh Nispeh b'Lo Mishpat. This is like "Ba Zadon va'Yavo Kalon" (11:2) - when Zadon comes. Many places in this Sefer, a word denoting the time or comparison is omitted. The Vav in v'Yesh is extra, to beauty the expression.

4.

R. Yonah #3: There is much food and seed in the plowed field of the poor, for all their toil is in it. They have no other income. Even so, sometimes their land succeeds due to Hashem's decree, not according to human Chachmah 2 .

5.

Malbim: This explains why Hashem does not pay a Tzadik's reward immediately. We find that the world is fed in the merit of a Tzadik, and the Tzadik is not fed even in his merit, like R. Chanina ben Dosa. The world was fed in his merit, and he subsisted on a Kav 3 of carobs from Erev Shabbos to Erev Shabbos (Brachos 17b). We find that much grain is found in fields that the poor plowed. The poor plow fields to remove thorns. It is hard work; the poor do it, and via them comes much food.

What is the consequence of "v'Yesh Nispeh b'Lo Mishpat"?

1.

Chagigah 4b-5a: Once, the angel of death sent a Shali'ach to bring a certain woman; he mistakenly brought a different woman. She remained; her missing years would be given to a Chacham who overcomes his Midos (pardons those who wronged him). Rashi - according to this, the end of the verse is not connected to the Reisha.

2.

Rashi #1: Many perish from the world due to "Lo Mishpat" - they do not conduct properly.

3.

Rashi #2: Grain is stricken due to its owner, who does not give Ma'aseros and Matanos.

4.

R. Yonah: Some Ashirim properly tend their fields, yet they do not give their proper yield due to Hashem's decree. "Mishpat" is the custom - "v'Cho Mishpato Kol ha'Yamim" (Shmuel I, 27:11). One should not trust in a sinner's wealth. Even if you see that he succeeds, and you cannot see how he will lose his wealth, "v'Tzafun la'Tzadik Cheil Chotei" (22) - Hashem has many ways [to carry out His will - Shmuel I, 2:3].

5.

Malbim: Even though much grain comes via the poor, sometimes the poor die without Mishpat, i.e. they starve. Similarly, even though much food comes via Tzadikim - they remove the thorns that block influence - we find that some are Nispeh with hunger, and have only a Kav of carobs [per week]. This is because Hashem knows that if he would have wealth, his merit would not suffice to bring down influence, just like the poor would not plow for wages if they had wealth.
