What do we learn from "va'Yasem Panav l'Iyim v'Lachad Rabim"?
Malbim: Antiyochus conquered many islands that had a Bris with Romi. He also entered the islands of Eretz Yavan, and via this fought Romi. Anival enticed him to do so.
What is the meaning of "v'Hishbis Katzin Cherpaso Lo"?
Rashi: Hashem ceased the blasphemy that he reviled Hashem and Yisrael, like it says in Sefer Yosifun.
Malbim: The officer that Romi appointed on the land defeated Antiyochus.
Why does it say "Cherpaso Yashiv Lo"?
Rashi: Hashem struck him with evil boils on his way to besiege Yerushalayim. His skin rotted and his limbs fell off. He told his servants to return him to Antuchiya, but before they could, he died from evil illnesses.
Malbim: When Antiyochus sought Shalom with Romi, Romi's officer replied that their hearts will not soften if they are defeated, nor will they get haughty if they win. Also now, they request only what they requested before they defeated him ? he must remove much of Surya from his rule, and return the cost of war, 12,000 talents, over 12 years. They did not ask to take his entire kingship, only to return his shame to him.
