(1) The lower Sukah is valid only if the upper Sukah is within 20 Amos from the *ground* (and not if it is within 20 Amos from the top of the lower Sukah), so that both Sukos are under the [valid] Sechach of the upper Sukah. If the upper Sukah was higher than 20 Amos from the ground, then its Sechach would be Pasul and neither Sukah would be valid. (See footnote 4 below.)
(2) According to RASHI (see footnote 4), when the Gemara says that the Sechach of the upper Sukah lets in more shade than sunlight, this point is "Lav Davka" (not necessary). Even if the Sechach of the upper Sukah lets in more sunlight than shade, the bottom Sukah is still Pasul. This is because the Sechach of the lower Sukah which is beneath the Sechach of the upper Sukah is considered invalid, since there is Sechach Pasul above it (the Sechach of the upper Sukah which is higher than 20 Amos). However, according to RABEINU TAM, who holds that the Sechach of a Sukah that is taller than 20 Amos is valid Sechach, the Gemara is specifically stating that the shade is more than the sunlight, and only because of that is the lower Sukah Pasul (because it is a Sukah beneath another Sukah). See Insights to 10a.
(3) Since each Sukah has more shade than sunlight, they are considered to be two separate Sukos and not like one Sukah (as in the previous case). Therefore, the upper Sukah will not be Pasul unless it is taller than 20 Amos from the top of the lower Sukah (which is the floor of the upper Sukah).

(5) According to Tosfos (9b DH Ha; see Insights to 9b, 10a), this refers to when there is more shade than sunlight in the lower Sukah as a result of the *combination* of the Sechach of the lower Sukah and that of the upper Sukah.
