Rav Yehuda said:
- Nobody cares whether or not the wife checks before תשמיש.
- The more often she checks before תשמיש the better.
- The husband appreciates it if his wife checks since this shows her יראת שמים.
- She should not check because this may make her husband worried she is טמאה and he may refrain from ביאה.
- She should check so that the husband can bring a חטאת.
Should a woman check immediately after תשמיש?
- She could check because her husband might be חייב חטאת.
- It is impossible to wipe herself quickly enough.
- She should not even wipe herself because this may discourage her husband from ביאה.
- She should check because her husband might be חייב אשם תלוי.
- We will never know if there is even a doubt that she was טמאה.
Somebody who does not fulfil the words of the Sages:
- Is not called a modest person.
- Is called a רשע.
- Is a Kuti.
- Does not learn Daf Yomi.
- Machlokes A and B.
If the husband comes home from the house of mourning:
- His wife is always forbidden to him because of the mourning.
- She is permitted to him because most of the month she is טהורה.
- He should be careful not to wake her up.
- It depends on whether or not she was permitted when he left home.
- He is always obliged to ask her what her status is.
Why did Rav Cahana ask the wives of Rav Papa and Rav Huna if a check is required before תשמיש
- He wanted to know what Rav Papa and Rav Huna did themselves not what they instructed others.
- He did not want to interrupt the husbands in the middle of learning.
- Rav Papa and Rav Huna would not reveal delicate family matters.
- Rav Papa and Rav Huna told others to check but told their wives not to check.
- To show that ladies are reliable in matters of Kashrus.
A wife who has no וסת:
- Everyone agrees that the husband must divorce her immediately.
- Everyone agrees that because of Shalom Bayis she stays on and no checking is required.
- R. Chanina ben Antignos says she must check before and after תשמיש.
- Abba Chanan holds that he must divorce her and pays her Kesubah.
- He must divorce her but if, later on, she gets a åñú he can take her back.
