Malbim: There was room to say that it was all a ruse, lest people say that David commanded to kill him. Therefore, it says that all recognized. The truth is seen, and one cannot hide falsity from the entire nation.

Why does it say that it was good in everyone's eyes?

Malbim #1: There was room to object, that the king disgraced his own honor to follow the bier and lament - but all were pleased. This is a sign that he was sincere.
