If David did not carry Sha'ul's weapons, it is easier to understand how David was away all 40 days that Galyus reviled Yisrael (refer to 17:12:5:1,2). However, Yevamos 76b infers from here that Sha'ul should have known who is David's father. This implies that he carried Sha'ul's weapons! (PF)
