Why must he say that it was via prophecy? Shmuel came just as Sha'ul finished offering. While approaching, Shmuel could have seen Sha'ul putting a limb on the fire! Perhaps he holds that Shmuel did not come immediately after; refer to 13:9:2:1. (PF)

What is "la'Mo'ed ha'Yamim"?

Rashi: It is the beginning of the [set] day.

Alshich: It is the seventh day from when Shmuel commanded him. Refer to 13:9:2:1.
