What does "Alah" imply?

1.

Rashi: He used to do so regularly.

2.

Rashi citing Koheles Rabah 5:19: Each year he went on a different route, in order to inform Yisrael that they should do (come to the Mishkan) like he does.

2)

Why does it say "v'Alah ha'Ish ha'Hu me'Iro"?

1.

Radak (from Yerushalmi Sof Brachos): He would make people of his city zealous to ascend.

2.

Malbim: He was the only one from his city to ascend. The others did not due to contempt for Bnei Eli. 1

Alternatively, perhaps the entire city were Leviyim, and they are exempt, for they do not own fields (refer to 1:3:3:1*. - PF)

3)

What is the meaning of "mi'Yamim Yamimah"?

1.

Radak: It was annual. 1

2.

Radak citing Targum Yonasan: It was from one Regel to another.

1

Why was it only once a year? Every man is obligated to go on all three festivals! R. Ami exempts one who has no land (Pesachim 8b). Sefas Emes (Chagigah 2a) holds that even a house is considered land, but it seems that Turei Even (2a) disagrees. (PF)

4)

What do we learn from "Lehishtachavos v'Lizbo'ach"?

1.

Radak citing Yalkut Shimoni 2, 77: Prayer is as great as Korbanos. Some say that it is greater than Korbanos, for it says Lehishtachavos first.
