What is the meaning of "ka'Chalom me'Hakitz"?

1.

Rashi: Like sleep without end - eternal sleep, so was to them. "va'Yetzei Mal'ach Hashem va'Yach b'Machaneh Ashur" (Melachim II, 19:35).

2.

Radak: They are like a dream. From when one awakens, he does not find anything from what he saw in the dream - "Ka'asher Yachalom ha'Ra'ev v'Hinei Ochel v'Hekitz v'Reikah Nafsho" (Yeshayah 29:8). So Resha'im - now you see their serenity, and now they are not. This is like Bildad said "Im Yevale'enu mi'Mekomo v'Chichesh Bo Lo Re'isicha" (Iyov 8:18).

3.

Malbim: Like a dream ends via waking, so You Hashem, when You wake them from their sleep, You will disgrace their form. I.e. life of this world and success or afflictions that one feels in it, are not true life. Just like when one dreams that he is stricken, or he is king over nations and succeeds, when he wakens, he realizes that what he felt in the dream was imaginary without reality. So too, occurrences in this world are not intrinsic reality, just chance. His situation changes constantly. The Nefesh does not feel success or afflictions while it 'sleeps' in physicality. When it awakens from its sleep, it does not see anything from this world. Then You will disgrace their form - [Resha'im] will receive punishment of their spiritual form and Nefesh. The Nefesh is called Kavod - theirs will be disgraced, for they will be cut off and perish.

Why did he say "Hashem ba'Ir Tzalmam Tivzeh"?

1.

Rashi: In Yerushalayim, where they did evil, there their form was disgraced, and all of them were burned.

2.

Radak #1: In this world they are distinguished via their serenity being short. The big distinction is in the world to come. The Nefashos of Tzadikim will be in the bind of life, and those of Resha'im will be slung in Kaf ha'Kela (like a slingshot) - "Hipaltam la'Masu'os" (verse 18).

3.

Radak citing his father: "Ba'Ir" is like b'He'ir ha'Mesim; when they are revived, You will despise the forms of the Resha'im - "these for eternal life, and these for eternal shame." Tzalmam can refer to the body or the Ru'ach - "b'Tzalmenu ki'Dmuseinu" (Bereishis 1:26), or both of them.

4.

Radak #2: "Ba'Ir" is in the city in which their form was honored due to their wealth and goodness. When He brings the evil on it, He will bring their form to disgrace.

5.

Malbim: Refer to 73:20:1:3.
