What is the command to Bnei Binyamin?

1.

Rashi: Gather to go to your cities, to guard your fortresses.

2.

Radak: Flee, like "Shelach ha'Ez Miknecha" (Shemos 9:19). Those in Yerushalayim should flee and make flee what they have in Yerushalayim, and all the more so from other cities, for even Yerushalayim will be captured. Flee is figure of speech, for there is no place for them to flee to [and be saved]! Rather, if you have a place to flee to, flee [to there], and also make flee from Yerushalayim, for also it will be captured.

3.

Radak citing Targum Yonasan: Exile [yourselves].

4.

Malbim: Bnei Binyamin were not of Yerushalayim; they wanted to seek refuge there. They should distance from there (they will not be saved).

2)

Yerushalayim was of Yehudah and Binyamin. Why did he address only Binyamin?

1.

Radak: This is like a person who groans and is pained over his relatives more than over others; Yirmeyah was from Anasos, in Binyamin. They were his family 1 , like Hashem told him "also your brothers and father's house, also they betrayed you" (12:6).

1

Yirmeyah was a Kohen (1:1)! Perhaps Radak means that he addresses Kohanim of Binyamin. (PF)

3)

Why does he mention Teko'a?

1.

Radak: He tells them [and all places] Lisko'a (to blow the Shofar), which is a similar word. We find like this - "v'Ekron Te'aker" (Tzefanyah 2:4).

2.

Malbim: It is in Asher (from the 10 tribes); also it should blow.

4)

Why did he tell them to blow the Shofar?

1.

Radak: This will arouse people to flee to the city.

5)

What is "Beis ha'Kerem"?

1.

Rashi: It is the name of a place.

2.

Radak: It is a tall tower in a vineyard to guard all the vineyards around it, like it says "va'Yiven Migdal b'Socho" (Yeshayah 5:2).

6)

What is "Mes'es"?

1.

Rashi: It is a flag. Raise it, to gather and fight for your lives.

2.

Radak: It is a fire. People will see the flame, and flee. This is like 'Masi'in Masa'os' (Rosh Hashanah 2:2).

7)

What is the meaning of "Nishkefah"?

1.

Radak: It is seen and revealed; now it will come.

2.

Malbim: All see that the evil is coming.
