Why does it say "Ki"? Is this the reason for what was said above?

1.

Radak: Because Edom is small, the nations will not be concerned if it perishes.

2.

Malbim: This is said in astonishment. Why are all nations needed to fight you, and why did they think to fight you? You are lowly! Who raised your honor and population to the point that they must gather to fight you?

Why does it say that Edom is small?

1.

Rashi: They do not have a hereditary monarchy 1 .

2.

Rashi (Ovadyah 1:2): Since Esav's father called him "Beno ha'Gadol", and also his mother 2 (Bereishis 27:1, 15, 42), Hashem says, in front of Me he is small.

4.

Radak citing Ibn Ezra: They were few in number, or their land was small.

3)

Why does it say "Nesaticha"?

1.

Radak: This is like "Etencha" 1 . In Nevu'ah, past tense is often used in place of future 2 .

1

Radak explains that Hashem will make Edom small and disgraced. The Gemara and other Meforshim (refer to 49:15:2:1-4) hold that it was already so. (PF)

2

Radak (46:23): For Nevu'ah for the future exists, as if [already] came.

4)

How is Edom disgraced?

1.

Rashi (Ovadyah 1:2, from Avodah Zarah 10a): They do not have a hereditary monarchy.
