Why did He say "ha'Dor Atem"?

1.

Radak: The prefix Hei is of Keri'ah (calls out), like "ha'Kaha1 Chukah Achas Lachem" (Bamidbar 16:15).

2.

Malbim: There were three groups in Yisrael. (a) One said that we do not strengthen ourselves in Torah and Musar, for only the previous generation, Ru'ach Hashem was amidst them, and they could receive the Kedushah, separation, Mitzvos and Divine matters. However, we already distanced from the light and descended awesomely; we cannot ascend Har Hashem. (b) One said oppositely - our fathers' way was not complete. We want to complete ourselves better than them. (c) One totally forgot Hashem, Torah and Mitzvos.

2)

Why did he say "Re'u Devar Hashem"?

1.

Rashi: Yirmeyah took out the flask of manna, and said 'see how Hashem's word helps!' Radak - this is why he said "see", and not 'hear'.

2.

Radak: This refers to seeing in the heart (understanding) - "v'Libi Ra'ah Harbeh" (Koheles 1:15), "Re'eh Devarecha Tovim" (Shmuel II, 15:3).

3.

Malbim: There were three groups in Yisrael (refer to 2:31:1:2). To the first group [that thought that we are not at a level to be close to Hashem], He said see that Hashem's word still appears among you, like in previous generations.

3)

Why did He say "ha'Midbar Hayisi l'Yisrael"?

1.

Rashi: This is said in astonishment. Therefore the Mem in ha'Midbar has no Dagesh, and there is Chataf Patach under the Hei. Did it seem to your fathers like a Midbar? I sent down this [manna] to them every day!

2.

Radak: Was I to them like a Midbar, or dark land, in which one does not find his needs? No - rather, I gave to them all their needs, as long as they followed Me. If so, why did you say "Radnu"?

3.

Malbim: Was I [Elokim] to Yisrael only in the Midbar, or in a dark land?! (Also in Eretz Yisrael I am your G-d!)

4)

What is the meaning of "Mapelyah"?

1.

Rashi: It is an expression of darkness. Radak - this is like Ofel. Shem Yud Kei is appended to intensify the darkness. The same applies to "Shalheves Kah" (Shir ha'Shirim 8:6), "k'Harerei Kel" (Tehilim 36:7), "Ir Gedolah lEi'lokim" (Yonah 3:3), "va'Tehi l'Cherdas Elokim" (Shmuel I, 14:15).

2.

Radak citing Targum Yonasan: It is desolate. This is like a dark land, in which one does not find anything.

5)

What is the meaning of "Radnu"?

1.

Rashi (from Tanchuma): We separated from You. This is like Rodeh (remove) bread from an oven.

2.

Rashi (citing Menachem): It is an expression of descent; there are other facets of it.

3.

Radak: We have a government - kings, and officers. We will not come to You any more!

4.

Radak citing Targum Yonasan: Italteilna (we are moved around). He translated similarly "Aniyim Merudim" (Yeshayah 58:7).

5.

Malbim: We descended, and distanced from Hashem and from Kedushah. We cannot ascend Har Hashem. You err! Hashem's word appears to this Dor like to the first Dor!
