Why were the forms only on the Misgeros between the Shelabim?

1.

Malbim: Only they were visible. They were illustrated for beauty and glory. The other Misgeros were inside, and not seen.

2)

What is the meaning of "v'Al ha'Shelabim Ken"?

1.

Rashi: "Ken" is a base for the Kiyor, above the Misgeres above [the steps].

2.

Radak: "Ken" is a base, just like the Mechonah was a base for the Kiyor. This was a smaller base; the verse does not say what it was for. Perhaps it was for a flask.

3.

Gra, Malbim: Just like there were forms on the Misgeros, so were on the Shelabim.

3)

Why does it say "mi'Ma'al"?

1.

Gra: The forms were only above. Below it was beaten flat [without any forms].

2.

Malbim: The forms were stuck onto the Shelabim.

4)

What are "Loyos"?

1.

Rashi: They are ornaments of male and female [forms] connected.

2.

Rashi citing Targum Yonasan: They are stuck together through soldering. Radak - Loy refers to clinging, like "Yilaveh Ishi Elai" (Bereishis 29:34). The Yud is in place of the Vov, the middle letter of the verb root. Under the forms were small copper sticks stuck to each other.

3.

Malbim: This refers to connection, like "Yilaveh Ishi Elai" (Bereishis 29:34). The thin plates with the forms were nailed to the Shelabim.

5)

What is "Ma'ase Mored"?

1.

Rashi: It is beaten flat, like a thin metal plate, without protrusions or indentations. Radak - the Targum of "va'Yrak'u" (Shemos 39:3) is v'Radidu.
