Why does it mention that he was a widow's son?

1.

Radak: His father died; Shlomo took his son, for also he was a good craftsman.

2)

Here it says that that he was from Shevet Naftoli. In Divrei ha'Yamim II, 2:13 it says that his mother was from Dan, and his father was Ish Tzuri!

1.

Radak, Gra: His father was from Naftoli (refer to 7:14:3:1), and his mother was from Dan.

2.

R. Gershom (Erchin 16b): His father was from Naftoli, and his father's mother was from Dan.

3.

Malbim: Initially, Melech Chiram sent the father of this craftsman (also his name was Chiram). His mother was from Dan, and his father lived in Tzor. He worked with gold and silver. After seven years he died, and Shlomo sent for his son to come. The son's mother was a widow from Shevet Naftoli. She was a widow, for his father (her husband) had died.

3)

What is "Ish Tzuri"?

1.

Radak: [His father] lived in Tzor. We find that Oved Edom was a Levi, like it says in Divrei ha'Yamim I, 15:18. He is called Giti, for he was from Gas.

4)

What is the meaning of "Choresh"?

1.

Rashi: He is a professional [copper smelter].

5)

Who was a copper smelter?

1.

Radak #1: Chiram was.

2.

Radak #2 (citing Erchin 16b): Both Chiram and his father were. This hints that one must engage in his father's craft.

6)

Why does it say here only that he worked with copper? In Divrei ha'Yamim II, 2:13, it says that he was skilled with gold, silver, copper and iron!

1.

Radak: There it mentions all his skills. Here it mentions only what Shlomo needed him for. He made the pillars, Kosaros, Mechonos, lavers, Yam, Ya'im and buckets from copper (verses 15, 16, 38-40, 45).

2.

Malbim: Divrei ha'Yamim discusses the father of the Chiram mentioned here. He worked with gold and silver

7)

Why does it mention Chachmah, Tevunah and Da'as?

1.

Rashi citing Shemos Rabah 48:7: These are the three Chachmos with which the world was created - "b'Chachmah Yasad Aretz Konen Shamayim bi'Svunah; b'Daito Tehomos Nivke'u" (Mishlei 3:19-20).

8)

Why does it mention that his father was from Naftoli, and [in Divrei ha'Yamim II, 2:13] his mother was from Dan?

1.

'Rashi' (Divrei ha'Yamim II, 2:13): This explains "Danani Elokim" and "Naftulei Elokim [Niftalti Im Achosi Gam Yacholti]" (Bereishis 30:6, 8) - I was able to resemble my sister. If Leah can boast that Betzalel [who descends from] her son [Yehudah] will build the Mishkan, he will need to join with him a man from Dan - "v'Ito Ohali'av
