Why did Shlomo take more time to build his house than to build the Beis ha'Mikdash?

1.

Rashi, from Sanhedrin 104b: He was zealous about his work for Hashem, and lazy about his own. The verse praises him for this! (The Gemara learns from Mishlei 22:29.)

2.

Radak: Really, he took only two years to build his house. He finished it in the 13th year of his reign, two years after he finished the Beis ha'Mikdash. 1

Radak: It says [that Shlomo gave cities to Chiram] "mi'Ketze Esrim Shanah Asher Banah Shlomo Es Shnei ha'Batim" (9:10), i.e. in all he took 20 years to build them! We can say that it means in the 20th year of his reign, seven years after he finished both houses, even though Chiram gave to him cedar wood, Beroshim and gold to build both houses.

2)

When did Shlomo build his house?

1.

Radak: It was after he finished the Beis ha'Mikdash.

3)

Why did it need to say "va'Ychal Es Beiso"?

1.

Malbim: Even though it took so long to finish it, he did not loathe the toil.
