Why did he say "ha'Gam Al ha'Almanah"?

1.

Radak: Do You visit sin even on the widow, just like You 1 are punishing Yisrael through withholding rain? Will you not revive him in my merit, that I dwell with her?

2.

Targum Yonasan: Only on the widow that I dwell with her, do not do evil to her, and her son should not die. Radak - this supports those who say that he did not totally die 2 (refer to 17:17:3:1).

3.

Malbim: Because You are angry at me and want to do evil to me, is Your anger so great that You will do evil also to her, because I dwell with her?! It is as if Your anger at me converted to anger that punishes also one in my neighborhood!

1

Eliyahu decreed that there will not be rain! Perhaps he understood that Hashem consented only because Yisrael deserved to be punished. (PF)

2

Kli Yakar: Surely Yonason explains like Pirkei d'R. Eliezer and all of Chazal, that he died! "Va'Yechi" (verse 22) teaches that he had died. One who says otherwise diminishes miracles! Rather, the Targum means that he should not remain dead.

2)

What is the meaning of "Misgorer"?

1.

Radak: This is [dwelling,] like "Im Lavan Garti" (Bereishis 32:5), in Hispa'el conjugation.
