What is the meaning of "l'Fi Sichlo Yehulal Ish"?
Rashi: If he is a small or great Chacham - he will receive reward according to his Sechel.
R. Yonah: According to a man's Sechel, it is proper to praise him. Do not disgrace your colleague if he has less Sechel than yourself; praise him according to his Sechel.
Malbim: Sechel is a special power in man that rules over things that Binah does not rule over them, e.g. to understand the laws of Chachmah. This is why you do not find expressions of Binah next to Chachmah, e.g. Binu Chachmah. We do find "u'Maskilim b'Chol Chachmah" (Daniel 1:4). Also to understand the greatest matters, e.g. Kevod Hashem, cannot be via comparisons and proofs that begin with axioms or what is sensed. Sechel can attain them. Stam Sechel in Kisvei ha'Kodesh is for good. Then, it understands the laws of Chachmah and goes in the way of Hashem, and he is praised. However, sometimes the Yetzer of the heart is sunk in desire, and it makes the Sechel err. The heart is the power in the Nefesh that rules over the body. It needs advisors, i.e. Binah and Sechel. However, when bad images draw the advisors to counsel like the Yetzer wants, then the Sechel helps to do evil.
What is "Na'ave Lev"?
Rashi #1: He moved his heart totally from Torah. He will be disgraced. Na'ave is like "Na'aveisi mi'Shmo'a" (Yeshayah 21:3), "Ben Na'avas ha'Mardus" (Shmuel I, 20:30).
Rashi #2: His heart is Na'avah (roaming), from Na v'Nad, just like Za'avah is from Za.
R. Yonah: One whose Da'as is mixed-up, and when he hears the truth, he does not admit to it, rather, he claims oppositely, because his reasoning is reversed. He is not proper for praise or honor, for his Da'as is dedicated to helping Sheker, "ha'Omerim la'Ra Tov vela'Tov Ra" (Yeshayah 5:20). Sheker is not proper to honor, rather, for disgrace.
Malbim: His heart veered from the way of straightness and Chachmah. Then also the Sechel is disgraced, for it is like a slave of desire and the Yetzer. Then, the greater his Sechel, the more it helps to do evil!
