SUMMARY

1. The Gemara advances certain mathematical principles in order to understand Rebbi Yochanan's law.

2. Rebbi Levi discusses a potter who has two Sukos all year round.

3. Rebbi Levi's statement is according to Beis Hillel.

4. The Gemara lists many types of Sukos that are not made to be used for Sukos but are still valid.

5. The Gemara includes another such list of valid Sukos.

A BIT MORE

1. One of these principles is that the diagonal of a square equals (approximately) one and two fifths of the length of a side of the square.

2. The inner Sukah is where he lives and the outer Sukah is where he works and displays his wares. Accordingly, the inner Sukah may not be a Sukah and is obligated to have a Mezuzah, whereas the outer Sukah may be a valid Sukah for Sukos and is exempt from a Mezuzah.

3. Even though Beis Hillel says that a Sukah that was made without any intent to be used for Sukos more than thirty days before Sukos is still valid, Beis Hillel would admit that this inner Sukah is invalid. This is because it is a Sukah that functions as a residence all year round. There is no way at all to recognize, on Sukos, that he is leaving his house and going to live in a Sukah.

4. These include a Sukah made for Nochrim, women, animals, or Kusim. As long as the Sechach was put up in order to provide shade and it was not just part of a booth that was made to provide privacy, it is valid.

5. These include Sukos made for Jewish shepherds and Jews who guard dried fruit, cities, or regular fruit. These are also valid as long as the Sechach was put up for shade and not for privacy.
