1. There was a gate in the Beis ha'Mikdash named the Gate of Yechanyah.
2. The Gemara explains that the enactment to bow down at the thirteen gates was made to commemorate the victory over the Yevanim.
3. Two other major floods occurred near the time of Noach.
4. Crops will grow much faster in the future.
5. When Yehoyachin saw that the Beis ha'Mikdash was going to be destroyed, he threw its keys heavenward.


1. It received its name when King Yechanyah was exiled, as he exited through that gate.
2. The Yevanim made thirteen breaches in the walls of the Beis ha'Mikdash. After they were defeated and the breaches repaired, the Rabanan instituted that one should bow down when passing each of the thirteen gates.
3. One was in the generation of Enosh (before Noach), when one third of the world was flooded. Another was in the Dor ha'Pelagah (after Noach), when flooding occurred until a place called Barberia.
4. Vegetables will take only fifteen days or one month to grow, and fruit will take between one and two months to grow.
5. Some say that he threw them up and they ascended into the sky, while others say a hand came down and caught them in midair, pulling them heavenward.
