SUMMARY

1. If a fetus dies in the womb of its mother and a midwife inserts her hand in and touches the fetus, she is Tamei.

2. According to Rebbi Yishmael, if a fetus dies inside the womb, it is not Metamei items that are under the same roof. Rebbi Akiva disagrees.

3. The cover and sides of a coffin are Metamei like a Mes.

4. A Revi'is of blood from a Mes is Metamei, according to Rebbi Yishmael. Rebbi Akiva maintains that even a Revi'is of blood from two Mesim is Metamei.

5. If the leg of a fetus of an animal protrudes out of the womb and one cuts it off prior to the Shechitah of the mother, the flesh of the animal is Tahor.

6. If the leg of a fetus of an animal protrudes out of the womb and one cuts it off after the Shechitah of the mother, the flesh of the animal is Tamei, according to Rebbi Meir.

7. According to the Rabanan, the Shechitah of the animal is Metaher the leg of the fetus that was cut off, and it is Tahor Min ha'Torah.

8. A garment with an area of three by three Tefachim and which is Tamei Midras is split into two. The two pieces are Tamei Maga Midras, according to Rebbi Meir.

9. Rebbi Yosi maintains that the two pieces of the garment are not Tamei Maga Midras unless a Zav came into contact with them.

10. If a piece of a garment the size of three by three fingerwidths was torn off from a garment that is much larger than three by three Tefachim that is Tamei Midras, the piece is Tamei Maga Midras, even according to Rebbi Yosi.

A BIT MORE

1. According to Rebbi Yishmael, a fetus inside the womb is not Metamei Min ha'Torah. However, the Rabanan were Metamei the midwife because of the concern that the head of the fetus will protrude out of the womb and the midwife will have to touch it and will become Teme'ah.

2. According to Rebbi Akiva, a source of Tum'ah inside a person conveys Tum'ah, and something that is Tahor inside a person can become Tamei. Rebbi Yishmael disagrees.

3. According to Rebbi Akiva, this Tum'ah is derived from a verse in the Torah. According to Rebbi Yishmael, it is a Halachah l'Moshe mi'Sinai.

4. A Revi'is of blood is absolutely essential for a person's survival, and therefore it is Metamei like a Mes. According to Rebbi Yishmael, only a Revi'is of blood from one Mes is Metamei. According to Rebbi Akiva, even a combined Revi'is of blood from two Mesim is Metamei.

5. An Ever Min ha'Chai is Metamei like a Neveilah. However, it is not Metamei the animal, since a live animal is not susceptible to Tum'ah.

6. The leg is an Ever Min ha'Chai and is Metamei the flesh of the slaughtered animal when it is cut off, according to Rebbi Meir.

7. Just as the Shechitah of a Tereifah is Metaher it from Tum'as Neveilah, the Shechitah of the mother is Metaher the Ever Min ha'Chai of the fetus, and it is Tahor Min ha'Torah.

8. A garment that is less than three by three Tefachim is too small to be Tamei Midras, but if it is at least three by three fingerwidths it is sufficiently large for susceptibility to other forms of Tum'ah. The garment is considered to have touched itself while it was still intact and became Tamei with Maga Midras, according to Rebbi Meir. Even though the Tum'as Midras was eliminated, the Tum'as Maga remains.

9. According to Rebbi Yosi, the fact that it touched itself while it was intact does not give it the Tum'ah of Maga Midras, because it touched itself only on the inside, not on the outside. Therefore, it is Tamei Maga Midras only if a Zav touched it with his bare foot.

10. Since the larger piece of the garment retained its Midras status even after the smaller price broke off, at the time the piece was torn off it came into contact with the larger piece and became Tamei with Maga Midras, even according to Rebbi Yosi.
