ERUVIN 11 (30 Av) - Dedicated l'Iluy Nishmas Esther Chaya Rayzel (Friedman) bas Gershon Eliezer on the day of her Yahrzeit by her son-in-law, Eli Turkel of Raanana, Israel. Esther Friedman was a woman of valor who was devoted to her family and gave of herself unstintingly, inspiring all those around her.

SUMMARY

1. One may not carry in a Mavoy with an entranceway more than ten Amos wide, even if it has a Tzuras ha'Pesach.

2. A Tzuras ha'Pesach is effective to separate two adjacent areas with regard to planting different types of crops in each area.

3. Rav Chisda: One may not make a Tzuras ha'Pesach by attaching the two sides of a string to the middle of two poles.

4. Rav Chisda: The poles of a Tzuras ha'Pesach must be strong enough to support the weight of a door.

5. There is a dispute about whether the string must actually touch the tops of the poles.

A BIT MORE

1. While the Gemara quotes a Beraisa that says that a Tzuras ha'Pesach allows one to carry in such a Mavoy, Rav told his son that this is an incorrect version of the Beraisa. It should read that the entranceway must be reduced.

2. If there are grapevines on one side of a Tzuras ha'Pesach, one may plant other crops on the other side of the Tzuras ha'Pesach, and it is not necessary to plant those crops at a distance.

3. A valid Tzuras ha'Pesach is made by extending the string from the top of one pole to the top of the other (and not by attaching it to the middle of the poles).

4. This weight may be merely that of a door made of straw.

5. Rav Nachman: It does not need to touch the tops of the poles. Rav Sheshes: It must touch the tops of the poles.
