SUMMARY

1. It is forbidden to sell certain types of fruit or incense to worshippers of Avodah Zarah.
 
2. It is permitted to sell a large package of fruit or incense to the worshippers of Avodah Zarah, because they obviously buy it in order to resell it.
 
3. If an idolater requests to buy a white rooster, one is forbidden to sell it to him.
 
4. If an idolater wants to buy both a white and a black rooster, according to Rebbi Yehudah one is forbidden to sell him only a white rooster. One is permitted to sell him a white rooster among other roosters.
 
5. If an idolater wants to buy a white rooster for a festive gathering for his son or for an ill family member, one is permitted to sell it to him.
 
6. If an idolater makes a wedding for his son, one is forbidden to engage in commerce with him on that day.
 
7. If an idolater wants to buy something and he says that he intends to bring it to an Avodah Zarah, one is forbidden to sell it to him.
 
8. If an idolater wants to buy a white rooster with a missing limb, there is a doubt about whether one is permitted to sell him a normal white rooster.
 
9. If an idolater requests a white rooster and the Jew sells him first a black rooster and than a red rooster, there is a doubt about whether the Jew may subsequently sell him a white rooster.
 
10. In a place where the Minhag is to sell small animals to Nochrim, one may do so. If the Minhag is not to sell them small animals, one may not do so.
 
11. In all places, it is forbidden to sell large animals to Nochrim. There is a disagreement if an animal which has a broken limb may be sold to a Nochri.
 
12. Ben Beseirah permits selling a horse to a Nochri.

A BIT MORE

1. It is forbidden to sell a fruit if the stem is still attached, because the idolater hangs it in front of his Avodah Zarah.
 
2. Although it might be sold to people who will use it for Avodah Zarah, the prohibition of selling these items is based on the prohibition of Lifnei Iver. This prohibition applies only when the item is being sold to someone who will use it for the Avodah Zarah himself.
 
3. This is forbidden, because the idolater intends to offer the white rooster to his Avodah Zarah. However, if he wants to buy a rooster without mentioning that he wants specifically a white rooster, one is permitted to sell it him.
 
4. If he requested a white rooster and a black rooster and he buys only a white rooster, his intent is to use it for Avodah Zarah. The fact that he also requested a black rooster was merely to fool the Jew. He was afraid that the Jew would not sell him a white rooster if he requested only a white rooster. However, according to Rebbi Yehudah, if he bought a black rooster as well, the Jew is permitted to sell him the white rooster along with the black rooster.
 
5. The Nochri is obviously buying the white rooster to beautify his festive meal or for medical purposes for his ill family member. He does not intend to use it for an Avodah Zarah.
 
6. On the day of the wedding, he bring Korbanos to his Avodah Zarah. He thanks his Avodah Zarah for the commerce that he was engaged in on that day.
 
7. It is possible that he is not sincere about bringing it to the Avodah Zarah, and he said so merely because he thinks that others are attached to the Avodah Zarah and he will get a discount for mentioning it. Nevertheless, one is forbidden to sell it to him.
 
8. Perhaps he is asking for a rooster with a missing limb, but he does not intend to offer it to Avodah Zarah. Perhaps he is being deceptive. Since he knows a Yisrael will be reluctant to sell him a white rooster, he requests a rooster with a missing limb in the hope that he will be sold a normal white rooster, since very few roosters are missing limbs.
 
9. This is a doubt according to Rebbi Yehudah, who maintains that one is permitted to sell a white rooster among other types of roosters. The Rabanan maintain that one is forbidden to sell a white rooster even among other roosters.
 
10. The reason for the Minhag not to sell small animals to Nochrim is the concern for Revi'ah. Selling the animal to a Nochri would constitute a transgression of Lifnei Iver, since even a Nochri is prohibited from doing an act of Revi'ah.
 
11. It is forbidden to sell a large animal which is used for Melachah because of the concern that it will lead to the rental or lending of an animal to a Nochri and he will do Melachah with it on Shabbos. Since it still belongs to the Jew, it is a transgression of the law allowing a Jewish-owned animal to do Melachah on Shabbos. The Tana Kama learns that even if the animal has a broken limb, it is forbidden to sell the animal to a Nochri. Rebbi Yehudah permits selling it.
 
12. A horse is intended for riding, and riding is not a Melachah, since "a live person carries himself."
