SUMMARY

The daughter of a Chalal is Pesulah for Kehunah forever. (1)

A Yisra’el who marries a Chalalah the daughter is Kosher for Kehunah

R. Yehudah says that a Kohen many not marry the daughter of a Ger or freed servant even after many generations and even if the mother is a Bas Yisra’el. (2)

R. Eliezer Ben Ya'akov says that the daughter of a Yisra’el who married Giyores or of a Ger who married a Bas Yisra’el is Kosher for Kehuanh. (3)

R. Dustai Bar Yehudah holds that the daughter of a Chalal who married a Bas Yisra’el is not a Chalalah and she is permitted to a Kohen

A widow who marries a Kohen Gadol becomes a Chalalah and she is Pesulah from Kehunah.

A Kohen who marries a woman who is Pesulah to Kehunah doesn’t become a Chalal and he remains Kosher for Kehunah. (4)

The children born from a person who remarried his wife after she marries someone else are Kosher for Kehunah.

Anyone who was born from a marriage of Pasulei Kehunah is a Chalal.

If a Kohen Gadol has relations with a woman who is a widow from three different people he is only Chayav once

If a Kohen has relations with a woman who was divorced from three different people he is only Chayav once.

If a Kohen Gadol has relations with a woman who was a widow and subsequently was divorced and became a Chalalah and than a Zonah, in that order, he is Chayav separately for each prohibition. (5)

If a Kohen Gadol has relations with three women who were widowed from three different people he is Chayav three Malkus

If a Kohen Gadol has relations three times with the same widow if he was warned before each time he is Chayav three Malkus.

If a Nazir drinks wine the entire day he is only Chayav once, if he is warned before each time he drinks he is Chayav for each time

A Kohen Gadol who has relations with his sister who is a widow is only Chayav for the Isur of a sister but the Isur of a widow does not take effect on top of the Isur of a sister.

R. Shimon holds that someone who eats Neve’ilah on Yom Kipur is Patur from Kares because the prohibition of Yom Kipur does not take effect on top of the Isur Neve’ilah which came first.

The Chachamim argue with R. Shimon and they hold that the more stringent Isur of Yom Kipur does take effect on top of the more lenient Isur of Neve’ilah.

If a Yisra’el has relations with his sister she becomes a Zonah but not a Chalalah because only a woman who is prohibited to a Kohen becomes a Chalalah.

If a woman is a divorcee, Chalalah and a Zonah a Kohen who has relations with her is Chayav Malkus for all three prohibitions.

If a woman is a widow, divorcee, Chalalah and a Zonah a Kohen Gadol who has relations with her is Chayav Malkus for all four prohibitions.

A BIT MORE

1. The daughters of the son of a Chalal, the daughters of the son of a son of a Chalal etc. are all Pesulah for Kehunah. However, the daughter of a daughter of a Chalal is Kosher for Kehuanh of her father is a Yisra’el.

2. But a Kohen may marry the daughter of a Yisra’el who married a Giyores

3. But the daughter of a Ger who married a Giyoeres is Pesulah for Kehunah according to R. Eliezer Ben Ya'akov.

4. However, he may not do Avodah until he makes a Neder prohibiting himself from having benefit

from women who are Pesulah to Kehunah.

5. THIS TANAH HOLDS THAT ONE ISUR CAN BE ADDED ON TO ANOTHER ISUR IF THE SECOND ISUR EXPANDS ON THE FIRST ISUR. THEREFORE THESE ISURIM THAT WERE IN THIS ORDER, EACH SUCCESSIVE ISUR EXPANDS ON THE PREVIOUS ISUR AND CONSEQUENTLY IT IS ADDED ON TO THE PREVIOUS ISUR. FIRST SHE WAS WIDOWED AND SHE IS ASUR TO A KOHEN GADOL, THAN SHE WAS DIVORCED AND NOW SHE IS ALSO ASUR TO A REGULAR KOHEN, THAN SHE MARRIED A KOHEN AND BECAME A CHALALAH AND NOW SHE IS ALSO ASUR FOR TERUMAH IF SHE IS A BAS KOHEN AND THAN SHE WAS MEZANEH WITH ONE OF HER RELATIVES AND BECAME A ZONAH AND A ZONAH IS SOMETIMES PROHIBITED EVEN ON A NON-KOHEN (IF AN EISHES ISH IS MEZANEH).

BRIEF INSIGHT

MANY NAMES

If a Kohen Gadol has relations with three women who were widowed from three different people he is Chayav three Malkus because they are three different people and three different names (meaning they were divorced from three different people.) Tosfos says that as long as they are three different people even if they are only one name (meaning that were all divorced from the same person) the Kohen Gadol who has relations with them is Chayav three Malkus. The same is true if someone has relations with three women who are all Nidos, even though all three are the same name he is Chayav three times because they are three different people.

QUICK HALACHAH

DAUGHTER OF A CHALAL

If a Chalal married a Bas Yisra’el the children are Chalalaim and the son of his son is also a Chalal throughout the generations. If he gives birth to a daughter she is Pesulah to a Kohen but if the daughter marries a Yisra’el her daughter is Kosher for Kehunah because a when a Yisra’el marries a Chalalah the children are Kosher. (Shulchan Aruch EH 7:16)
