BERACHOS 30 - Two weeks of study material have been dedicated by Mrs. Estanne Abraham Fawer to honor the Yahrzeit of her father, Rav Mordechai ben Eliezer Zvi (Rabbi Morton Weiner) Z'L, who passed away on 18 Teves 5760. May the merit of supporting and advancing Dafyomi study -- which was so important to him -- during the weeks of his Yahrzeit serve as an Iluy for his Neshamah.

SUMMARY

1. There is a dispute about whether one may say the wayfarer's prayer while traveling.

2. The Gemara discusses which direction one should face while reciting Shemoneh Esreh.

3. It is preferable to pray in a Beis Midrash (house of learning) where one learns Torah, rather than in a synagogue.

4. One who forgets to say "Ya'aleh v'Yavo" in the Shemoneh Esreh of Ma'ariv on Rosh Chodesh does not need to repeat Shemoneh Esreh.

5. One may not interrupt his Shemoneh Esreh.

A BIT MORE

1. Rav Chisda: One must stand still when reciting this prayer. Rav Sheshes: One may recite it while traveling.

2. For example, if one is in Yerushalayim he should face towards the place of the Beis ha'Mikdash. If one is outside of Eretz Yisrael, he should face towards Yerushalayim.

3. This is why Rebbi Ami and Rebbi Asi prayed in the Beis Midrash where they learned rather than in the synagogues of Teveryah.

4. This is because Beis Din would not sanctify the new month at night.

5. Even if a king greets him, or a snake wraps itself around his heel, he may not interrupt his Shemoneh Esreh. (Both situations refer to non-life-threatening situations, or when there is little risk of a life-threatening situation.)
