ZEVACHIM 97 (7 Av) - Dedicated in memory of Dr. Simcha Bekelnitzky (Simcha Gedalya ben Shraga Feibush) of Queens, N.Y., Niftar 7 Av 5757, by his wife and daughters. G-d-fearing and knowledgeable, Simcha was well known in the community for his Chesed and Tzedakah. He will long be remembered.

SUMMARY

1. According to Rebbi Tarfon, the metal pots used for cooking the Kodshim of Yom Tov do not have to be rinsed until after Yom Tov.

2. The Chachamim maintain that the metal pots used for cooking Kodshim must be rinsed before the end of the allotted time for whichever Kodshim was cooked in them.

3. According to Rebbi, both Merikah and Shetifah are done with cold water. Merikah refers to rinsing the inside of the utensil, and Shetifah refers to rinsing the outside of the utensil.

4. According to the Chachamim, Merikah is done with hot water, and Shetifah is done with cold water.

5. If Kodshei Kodashim are cooked in a metal pot followed by Kodshim Kalim, if the Kodshei Kodashim gives taste to the Kodshim Kalim, the Kodshim Kalim have the same status as the Kodshei Kodashim.

6. If the Kodshei Kodashim do not give taste to the Kodshim Kalim, the Kodshim Kalim do not have the same status as the Kodshei Kodashim.

7. If a piece of meat of Kodshim comes into contact with another piece of meat, the portion of the meat which absorbed the taste of the Kodshim has the same status as the Kodshim.

8. It is forbidden to break a bone of a Korban Pesach, even if the bone contains marrow.

9. The Shechitah of Kodshim must be done with a knife.

A BIT MORE

1. A pot which was used for cooking Kodshim must be rinsed on the same day, before the meat which is absorbed in the pot becomes Nosar. However, on Yom Tov, since many Korbanos are brought, the Shelamim cooked the previous day are expelled completely into the Shelamim cooked today, before it becomes Nosar, as a Shelamim is eaten for two days. Even if the pot was used for the cooking of a Chatas, which may be eaten for only one day, the Kohanim are careful to cook a Shelamim in the same pot on that day.

2. If Shelamim was cooked in the pot, it must be rinsed within two days. If a Chatas was cooked in the pot, it must be rinsed within one day.

3. However, Hag'alah in water must be done first in order to expunge the Kodshim which became absorbed in the utensil.

4. According to the Rabanan, Merikah is the same as Hag'alah. After Hag'alah, the utensil must be rinsed in cold water.

5. The Kodshim Kalim may be eaten only inside the Azarah, for one day and one night, like Kodshei Kodashim. Similarly, the pot must be rinsed within that time. If the Kodshei Kodashim were Pasul, the Kodshim Kalim are also Pasul, and if it comes into contact with another piece of meat, that piece of meat also becomes Pasul.

6. The Kodshim Kalim may be eaten within the walls of Yerushalayim, and the pot may be rinsed within the allotted time for the Kodshim Kalim. Even if the Kodshei Kodashim were Pasul, the Kodshei Kalim are Kosher.

7. The piece of meat which absorbed taste from the Kodshim must be cut off, and it has the same status as the Kodshim. If the Kodshim is Pasul, the meat is also Pasul. If the Kodshim is Kosher, the meat must be eaten with the laws of the Kodshim.

8. Rava explains that although it is a Mitzvah to eat all of the meat of the Korban Pesach, including the marrow, this Mitzvah does not override the prohibition against breaking the bone of the Korban Pesach, because a Mitzvas Aseh does not override a Lo Sa'aseh in the Beis ha'Mikdash.

9. The Shechitah of Chulin may be done with a sharp object, and it is not necessary to use a knife. However, the Shechitah of Kodshim requires a knife.
