MENACHOS 87 (2 Sivan) - This Daf has been dedicated in memory of Harry Bernard Zuckerman, Baruch Hersh ben Yitzchak (and Miryam Toba), by his children and sons-in-law.

SUMMARY

1. Sweet wine that was extracted from naturally sweet grapes, and smoked or cooked wine, are Pasul for Nesachim, even b'Di'eved.

2. Rebbi maintains that wine from the previous year may not be used for Nesachim. The Rabanan disagree.

3. The wine for Nesachim should be brought from grapes which grew on low vines, and not from vines which were draped on a trellis.

4. Wine from the top or the bottom of the jug shall not be brought for Nesachim because the wine on the top contains white residue and the wine on the bottom contains sediment.

5. There were two measures in the Beis ha'Mikdash: a one-Isaron measure which was used to measure the Isaron of flour for the Menachos, and a half-Isaron measure which, according to the Rabanan, was used for the Chavisei Kohen Gadol.

6. Rebbi Meir maintains that there were two measures of an Isaron in the Beis ha'Mikdash.

7. If the Levonah is placed directly on the Shulchan without the Bazichin, they become sanctified with Kedushas ha'Guf, but they may not be brought on the Mizbe'ach.

8. There were seven measuring cups for liquids in the Beis ha'Mikdash, according to the Tana Kama and Rebbi Shimon. Rebbi Elazar bar Tzadok disagrees.

A BIT MORE

1. However, if the wine is sweet because the grapes were left in the sun, there is a disagreement about whether it is Pasul for Nesachim even b'Di'eved, or only l'Chatchilah.

2. L'Chatchilah, the wine should be bright red, according to Rebbi. Second-year wine has already lost some if its color.

3. The wine for Nesachim should be brought from a vineyard which was hoed twice a year.

4. Rebbi Yosi b'Rebbi Yehudah says that wine with white residue is Pasul for Nesachim. If one is Makdish wine for Nesachim with white residue, there is a doubt about whether he is Chayav Malkus.

5. Even the Minchas Nesachim for the Par or Ayil which required two or three Esronim was measured one Isaron at a time, since there was no measure larger than an Isaron.

6. One of the measures of the Isaron was slightly less than an Isaron, and when it was heaped it was exactly an Isaron. This was the measure used to measure the Esronim for the Menachos. The other measure of the Isaron was exactly an Isaron without being heaped, and it was used for the Chavisei Kohen Gadol which needed to be divided in half. If it would be heaped, it would spill when divided.

7. The Levonah is meant to be placed in the Bazichin, and the Bazichin are placed on the Shulchan. If the Levonah was placed on the Shulchan without the Bazichin, it becomes sanctified with Kedushas ha'Guf, and it can become Pasul with Linah and Yotzei, but it may not be brought on the Mizbe'ach.

8. According to the Tana Kama, there were separate measuring cups for the Hin, half-Hin, third-Hin, and quarter-Hin; for the Log, half-Log, and quarter-Log. Rebbi Elazar bar Tzadok maintains that there was one measuring cup for the Hin and one for the Log. The measuring cups had lines to indicate a half, a third, and so on. Rebbi Shimon says that there was no measuring cup for a Hin, but rather there was a measuring cup of a Log and a half which was used for the Chavisei Kohen Gadol.
