SUMMARY

1. The Gemara discusses Rebbi Yehudah's intentions when he qualifies the words of the Chachamim.

2. Rav Yosef: One may make an Eruv Techumin only in order to perform a Mitzvah.

3. The Gemara discusses until when a minor is automatically included in the Eruv Techumin of his mother.

4. The Mishnah discusses how much food must be included in an Eruv Techumin (see #5 below).

5. The Mishnah explains that Rebbi Meir and Rebbi Yehudah are not really arguing, but rather both are being lenient.

A BIT MORE

1. Rebbi Yehoshua ben Levi: Whenever Rebbi Yehudah says "when" or "when is this stated," it is merely to explain the words of the Chachamim. Rebbi Yochanan: Rebbi Yehudah says "when" to explain the Chachamim, but he says "when is this stated," when he disagrees with the Chachamim.

2. This is supported by the Mishnah's statement regarding a person who makes an Eruv Techumin in order to go to a house of mourning or to a wedding.

3. For example, Rav Asi says that even a six year old is automatically included in the Eruv of his mother.

4. Rebbi Meir: Two meals' worth of food, the size of a weekday meal, is required per person. Rebbi Yehudah: Two Shabbos meals are required per person.

5. Rebbi Meir understands that people eat smaller meals on the weekdays, and therefore only two weekday meals' worth of food are needed for an Eruv Techumin. Rebbi Yehudah says that people eat smaller meals on Shabbos because they eat a total of three meals, and therefore an Eruv Techumin requires only the size of two Shabbos meals.
