SUMMARY
1. The Gemara says that the method of making an Eruv and Shituf somewhat follows the opinion of Rebbi Meir.
2. There is a dispute about the law when five families live in one large house in a Chatzer.
3. The Gemara discusses the exact structure of such a large house (see #2), and whether the families in the house are considered one occupant or multiple occupants.
4. Shmuel: The Mishnah teaches that the place where people sleep determines whether they must contribute to an Eruv.
5. Rav: The Mishnah is discussing a case in which they take their food from their father's house but they eat it in their own houses.

A BIT MORE
1. Rebbi Meir says that an Eruv may be made only with bread, and not with wine, while a Shituf should be made with wine but may also be made with bread. Some say that this is the law, others say that it is the custom, and others say that it is an opinion that does not have to be protested when someone follows it.
2. Beis Shamai: Each of the families must contribute to the Eruv in the Chatzer in order to be permitted to carry into the Chatzer and to each other's area within the house. Beis Hillel: One person may contribute to the Eruv for all of them in order to permit them to carry into the Chatzer. They have no restrictions from carrying to each other's area within the house, even with no Eruv.
3. For example, there is a dispute about whether the Mishnah is discussing a case where the walls that divide between each family reach the ceiling or do not reach the ceiling.
4. The simple reading of the Mishnah is that brothers -- who each own a house in a Chatzer -- who eat their Shabbos meals at their father's house must contribute to the Eruv. This is because they sleep in separate houses, which is the determining factor for whether they must contribute to the Eruv.
5. The Mishnah, therefore, says that they must contribute to the Eruv, since they eat in separate houses. Rav understands that the determining factor for whether they must contribute to the Eruv is where the people eat their meals.
