SUMMARY

1. The Kohen who places the blood of a Chatas on the Mizbe'ach ascends the ramp of the Mizbe'ach. He turns onto the Sovev and places the blood on the four corners of the Mizbe'ach, starting from the southeastern corner.

2. According to the Tana of the Mishnah, the remaining blood of a Chatas offered in the Azarah is poured on the southern part of the Yesod. The remaining blood of a Chatas Penimis is poured on the western part of the Yesod. Rebbi Yishmael says that the remaining blood of all Chata'os is poured on the western part of the Yesod.

3. The flesh of a Chatas is eaten only by male Kohanim within the curtains of the courtyard of the Ohel Mo'ed for one day and one night until midnight.

4. The Kohen who places the blood of a Chatas on the Mizbe'ach must dip the finger next to his thumb of his right hand into the blood.

5. Rebbi says that the blood of the Korbanos which is placed on the upper part of the Mizbe'ach may be placed anywhere above the Chut ha'Sikra. Rebbi Elazar b'Rebbi Shimon agrees in the case of an Olas ha'Of, but not in the case of a Chatas.

6. Rebbi Yochanan and Rebbi Elazar disagree about whether, according to Rebbi, the blood of a Chatas may be placed within an Amah of the corner of the Mizbe'ach, or whether it must be placed directly on the corner.

7. An Olah is Kodshei Kodashim, and is slaughtered in the north of the Azarah, and its blood is received in the north of the Azarah.

8. The Olah requires two Matanos which will reach all four sides of the Mizbe'ach. The hide must be flayed, and the flesh cut up and completely burned on the Mizbe'ach.

9. Rav says that the blood of an Olah must be thrown twice on each of the two corners of the Mizbe'ach: once on each side of the corner. Shmuel says that the blood must be thrown once on each corner in such a way that it spreads to both sides of the corner.

10. The blood of an Olah is not placed on the southeastern corner of the Mizbe'ach because it lacks a Yesod.

11. The Mizbe'ach is entirely in the portion of Binyamin except for one Amah of the Mizbe'ach in the east and one Amah in the south.

A BIT MORE

1. The Kohen always circles the Mizbe'ach to the right. When he reaches the top of the ramp on the south of the Mizbe'ach, he turns to his right onto the Sovev and goes to each corner: southeast, northeast, northwest, and finally southwest.

2. Rebbi Shimon bar Yochai says that the remaining blood of all Chata'os is poured on the southern part of the Yesod.

3. In the Beis ha'Mikdash, a Chatas may be eaten only within the walls of the Azarah. Although Min ha'Torah it may be eaten the entire night, the Rabanan decreed that it may be eaten only until midnight, in order to distance a person from transgressing the sin of eating the Chatas after daybreak, which is a Chiyuv Kares.

4. The Kohen holds his thumb up and his pinky finger down and pushes his finger with the blood against the Mizbe'ach, dragging it downwards on the corner of the Mizbe'ach.

5. According to Rebbi Elazar b'Rebbi Shimon, the blood of a Chatas must be placed on the Keren of the Mizbe'ach.

6. Everyone agrees that l'Chatchilah the blood must be placed directly on the corner of the Mizbe'ach. However, according to one opinion, b'Di'eved the blood may be placed within a Tefach of the corner which is equivalent to the width of the Keren.

7. Although the Torah does not state that an Olah is Kodshei Kodashim, since it is entirely consumed by the Mizbe'ach it must be Kodshei Kodashim. Even the portion of Kodshim Kalim which is placed on the Mizbe'ach is referred to as Kodshei Kodashim.

8. The two Matanos of an Olah must be placed on two corners of the Mizbe'ach diagonally across from each other, so that the blood that is placed on both sides of the corner will reach all four corners of the Mizbe'ach.

9. According to Shmuel, the blood must be thrown directly on the corner, so that the blood spreads to both sides of the corner like the Greek letter Gamma.

10. The blood of an Olah must be placed on two corners of the Mizbe'ach, but only where there is a Yesod. All of the corners of the Mizbe'ach have a Yesod except the southeastern corner, since it is in the portion of Yehudah.

11. The entire length of the Mizbe'ach, to a width of one Amah, in the east and south of the Mizbe'ach, is in the portion of Yehudah. The final Amah in the east and the south is in the portion of Binyamin.
