SUMMARY
The Gemara states that the prayers of David and Chavakuk prevented Bnei Yisrael from living in abject poverty. (1) The Gemara says that if two Torah scholars are walking together and they do not talk at all in learning, they are fit to be burned. (2) If a poor person is a Torah scholar despite his poverty, Hashem listens to his prayers. (3) Rebbi Meir was the last person who excelled in parables. (4) Raban Gamliel was the last person who knew how to derive the meaning of every single aspect of the Written Torah. (5)
A BIT MORE
1. It is said that if not for the prayers of David we would all be selling rags. If not for the prayers of Chavakuk, Torah scholars would have to share Taleisim. 2. When Elisha parted from Eliyahu, they were not burned by the chariot of fire that came to take Eliyahu to the heavens. The verse implies that it occurred because they were speaking words of Torah; otherwise they would have been fitting to be burned. 3. The Gemara continues to say that Hashem satiates such a person from the Shechinah, and He does not separate Himself from him. 4. Ben Azai was the last person who constantly and consistently was involved in Torah learning. 5. When Rebbi died, humility and fear of Heaven died with him (as he excelled in these areas).
