A BIT MORE
1. The Tana Kama says that whenever the Torah states "Yad," it refers to the left arm. Rebbi Nasan says that since the tying of the Tefilin must be done with the right hand, the Tefilin are placed on the left arm. 2. According to Acherim, he must place the Tefilin on his right arm. 3. However, one who is ambidextrous should wear Tefilin on his left arm. 4. Although the son has a mortal defect and will not live long, if he is alive after thirty days, the father must redeem him. 5. According to the Tana Kama, the Halachah of the Tefilin Shel Yad is learned from the Halachah of the Tefilin Shel Rosh. Just as the Tefilin Shel Rosh is placed on the upper part of the head, the Tefilin Shel Yad is placed on the upper part of the arm. Rebbi Eliezer says that the Tefilin Shel Yad is an "Os" only for the wearer, not for others, and therefore it is placed on the upper part of the arm where it is less conspicuous. Rebbi Yitzchak says that the Torah requires that the Tefilin be placed opposite the heart. Therefore, it must be placed on the upper part of the arm. 6. Although the Torah states that the Tefilin is worn between the eyes, a Gezeirah Shavah teaches that it is placed on the upper part of the head, according to the Tana Kama. Rebbi Yehudah says that it is derived from the Tefilin Shel Yad. Just as the Tefilin Shel Yad is placed on the arm which is a part of the body which can become Tamei with only one Nega, the Tefilin Shel Rosh must be placed on the upper part of the head and not between the eyes, which is a part of the body which can become Tamei from both a Nega of the skin and a Nega of the hair. 7. According to the Tana Kama, if a garment lacks Tzitzis on one of the four corners, one is forbidden to wear the garment. If the garment is made from linen, one who wears the garment transgresses the prohibition of Sha'atnez. If one wears the garment in a public domain on Shabbos, he is Chayav Chatas for carrying the three useless Tzitzis four cubits in a public domain. 8. The Tana Kama maintains that all four Tzitzis are one Mitzvah. A five-cornered garment is Chayav in Tzitzis only on four of its corners. According to Rebbi Shimon, who maintains that the four Tzitzis are four separate Mitzvos, the garment is Chayav in Tzitzis on all five corners. 9. One may not place the Tzitzis on the folded-over corners, even though he sewed them together, because if he really did not want the extra length of the Talis he would have cut off that portion of the Talis. 10. A person's honor supersedes an Isur d'Rabanan, but not the Torah prohibition of carrying in a public a domain.
